The National Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Mercy came alive with joy and devotion as the faithful celebrated the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the cherished birthday of the Mother of Jesus and beloved Mother of Mercy. From early morning until evening, parishioners and pilgrims gathered to honor Mary’s birth with heartfelt prayers, hymns, and thanksgiving.
The celebration began with Holy Masses offered throughout the day, drawing devotees who came to express their love and gratitude to the Blessed Mother. Each Eucharistic celebration reflected on Mary’s extraordinary role in salvation history and invited the faithful to imitate her humility, obedience, and unwavering trust in God’s plan. The liturgy resounded with greetings of “Happy Birthday, Dear Mother of Mercy!” as the community united in prayer and song to honor her special day.
During the homilies, priests reminded the faithful of Mary’s constant maternal care and intercession. Parishioners were encouraged to follow her example by living lives of faith and openness to God’s will, echoing the call to “strive to be obedient to God’s invitation like her.” Flowers, candles, and prayers offered at the Shrine’s altar testified to the deep love of devotees for the Blessed Mother.
As the bells of the Shrine rang in celebration, the day concluded with a renewed sense of hope and gratitude. The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary remains a powerful reminder of God’s mercy and the gift of a Mother who continues to guide and protect her children.
