Welcome to the Sanctuary of God’s Love and Mercy

We joyfully welcome you to the National Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Mercy — a sacred home where hearts are healed, faith is renewed, and the embrace of our beloved Ina ng Awa is felt by all.

Whether you’re a pilgrim, a parishioner, or a seeker of peace, this shrine is a place where God’s mercy flows through prayer, community, and the loving intercession of Mary, our Ina Ng Awa.

Founded in 1856 by Augustinian missionaries, this church is the oldest in the Diocese of Novaliches and the mother parish of over 40 communities.

Home to the canonically crowned image of Our Lady of Mercy, it has long been a sacred site of Marian devotion.

On September 15, 2024, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) formally declared it as a National Shrine, affirming its spiritual, historical, and cultural importance to the faithful.

The shrine continues to be a place of prayer, healing, and pilgrimage — where the mercy of God is encountered through the loving intercession of Ina ng Awa.

Message from the Rector and Parish Priest

Welcome to the sanctuary of God’s love and mercy.

With a grateful heart, we welcome you to our sacred home — a beloved shrine where the faithful come home and the love of Our Lady of Mercy embraces all.

For generations, our Blessed Mother under the title Our Lady of Mercy has walked with Novaliches, offering her comfort and intercession to countless souls.

May this Shrine be a place of healing, encounter, and renewed faith — where every pilgrim finds hope, mercy, and peace in the heart of Jesus through Mary.

Bond of Spiritual Affinity with the Papal Basilica of St. Mary Major, Rome

On March 6, 2021, the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Mercy of Novaliches was granted a Bond of Spiritual Affinity with the Papal Liberian Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome, Italy.

This special grace — solemnly declared on June 6, 2021 by His Excellency Most Rev. Charles John Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines — recognizes the shrine as a Marian pilgrim site sharing spiritual benefits with one of the four major basilicas in Rome.

Declared a National Shrine by the CBCP

On July 6, 2024, during its 128th Plenary Assembly, the CBCP unanimously approved the elevation of Our Lady of Mercy Parish to the rank of a National Shrine.

The solemn declaration was held on September 15, 2024, coinciding with the first day of the Novena and the 16th anniversary of its diocesan shrine status.

This Makes It:

  • The first National Shrine in the Diocese of Novaliches
  • Spiritually affiliated with the Papal Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome
  • Home to a canonically crowned Marian image
  • A recognized center of Marian pilgrimage nationwide

Devotion to Our Lady of Mercy

The devotion to Our Lady of Mercy began in the 13th century, when she appeared to St. Peter Nolasco, calling for the redemption of captives. That same spirit of compassion lives on in Novaliches through:

  • Saturday Devotions
  • Novena to Our Lady of Mercy
  • The vibrant Cofradía of Ina ng Awa

You are invited to experience her loving mercy — in prayer, procession, and pilgrimage.

Support the Shrine’s Mission

Your generous offering helps sustain the mission and ministries of the National Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Mercy. Every gift contributes to:

  • Maintaining a sacred place of prayer, healing, and pilgrimage
  • Supporting parish programs and social outreach
  • Preserving the shrine’s heritage for future generations

Let us build together a sanctuary of mercy, hope, and faith.
